Magen Solomon, Artistic Director

Magen Solomon has been Artistic Director of San Francisco Choral Artists since 1995. She joined the choral conducting faculty of the University of Southern Californiašs Thornton School of Music in 2004, and from 1992 to 2004 she was Music Director of the Oakland Symphony Chorus.

Under her leadership, the San Francisco Choral Artists has premiered over eighty choral works, performed for the 2008 and 1998 Western Division conventions of the American Choral Directors Association, and released two compact discs So Gracious Is the Time (1999) and Music Among Friends (2005).

Dr. Solomon has been a guest conductor and adjudicator for festivals in the US and Asia, and has prepared choruses for Michael Tilson Thomas, Kent Nagano, Nicolas McGegan, Christoph von Dohnanyi, and Michael Morgan, among others.

Ms. Solomon has taught and conducted at Smith and Mount Holyoke colleges, and at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Santa Clara University, and has studied conducting with Robert Fountain, Richard Pittman, David Becker, and Helmuth Rilling.

She is editor of the Research Column of the Choral Journal, and her edition of Johannes Eccard's Newe deutzsche Lieder (1578) is published by A-R Editions (Madison, Wisconsin).
