Christopher Marshall

2010 Composer Not In Residence

Christopher Marshall is a freelance composer, and Adjunct Professor of Composition at the University of Central Florida, in Orlando. Born in France, raised in Australia and New Zealand and having lived several years in Samoa, his music moulds diverse influences into a distinctive personal style marked by memorable melody and rhythmic ingenuity.

The Choral Artists and our Bay Area audiences have enjoyed several of Christopher Marshall’s compositions over the past few years:

  • And I Saw The River (from O Fragile Human), presented at our Subscription Concert Series of June 2006, was a West Coast Premiere.
  • A Voice from Heaven (from O Fragile Human) was presented at the March/April 2006 concert.
  • Magpies (from To The Horizon) was presented in June 2001, and was a USA premiere.
  • Elegy in a City Railyard (from To The Horizon) was presented in June 2000 as a USA premiere. Elegy was so well received that we presented it again in March 2002.
  • Minoi, Minoi (from Songs of Samoa), presented June 2000. Chris believes this was likely a West Coast Premiere. We enjoyed it again on the June 2003 "Shall We Dance" concert set.

Scores of these and his other works are available by request by contacting the composer at www.vaiaata.com or composer@vaiaata.com.
