In a holiday concert featuring works spanning five centuries, mountains, stars, trees, roses, and the heavens are among the many themes of nature we’ll explore. Hear 16th and 17th c. works by Johannes Eccard, Orlando di Lasso, Jacob Handl, and Michael Praetorius programmed alongside world premieres by Composer-in-Residence Mark Winges and Composer-Not-in-Residence Eleanor Aversa.
For those with a taste for traditional carols we’ll perform lovely and, in some cases, innovative arrangements of The Holly and the Ivy; I wonder as I wander; Lo, how a rose ‘er blooming; and Deck the Halls. Exciting 20th c. composers on the program include: Herbert Howells, Zoltán Kodály, John Jacob Niles, Roger Nixon, Daniel Pinkham, Francis Poulenc, and Sergei Taneyev.
