Songs of love and loss are interwoven through Jewish texts and traditions. Biblical sources, such as The Song of Songs, the story of David and Absalom, and Psalms, as well as Middle Eastern folk tales, examine themes of joy and anguish, sacred and secular love—often with a dash of the unexpected. Once again, SFCA collaborates with audience favorite, the internationally renowned klezmer trio Veretski Pass. Featuring 14 world premieres—including new works from Composers-in and Not-in-Residence Benjamin Taylor and Kala Pierson, Wayne Eastwood, Joshua Horowitz, and William Vollinger—and works by Leonard Bernstein, Norman Dinerstein, Paul Ben-Haim, and Alice Parker.
