Our 2024-25 Season
WELCOME TO THE ZOO! A MUSICAL MENAGERIE
Join us on a whimsical trip to a fantastical musical zoo where we’ll visit with ducks, horses, nightingales, snakes, chickens, lizards, seals, worms, and even some crustaceans! From the sublime to the silly, we’ll get to know our animal earth-mates through music. Including works by Burnham, Chen Yi, Davies, Eccard, Hindemith, Holmes, Kaulkin, Stanford, Tavener, and more.
For centuries, composers have responded to the animal world with wit, reverence, and imagination. This wide-ranging program includes the serene beauty of Stanford's "The Bluebird," the introspective lyricism of Hindemith's "Un Cygne," the playful brilliance of Renaissance animal portraits, and even an elusive marsupial! You’ll be the first to hear “Benjamin Bandicoot” by Bryce McCandless, winner of our New Voices Project, as well as world premieres of “Seal Lullaby” by Composer-in-Residence Zoe Yost, and “The Lizard” by Composer-Not-in-Residence Patricia Julien.
