She holds BAs in chemistry and music from St. Olaf College and an MS in organic chemistry from the University of San Francisco.

Jessica Lingua is an opera-singing microbiologist in her fifth season with SFCA. Jessica adores plants, tide-pooling, trying new restaurants, and renting stacks of books and movies from the library. She's a proud brewer of strong, french press coffee and the humble owner of a short legged, long haired, calico cat. She believes any art or craft should be tried at least once and knows all of the best local thrift stores for treasure hunting.

Kaia Richards, a San Francisco Choral Artist singer since 2015, has been a chorister since childhood. She serves as the artistic director of the Silicon Valley Boychoir and the Choir Director at Moreau Catholic High School. In addition to maintaining a thriving voice studio in the East Bay, she holds a Master’s and Doctorate of Music in Vocal Performance from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and an undergraduate degree in music from Cal State Hayward.

Lisa Sargent has been singing in choirs since the age of 10, when she got caught sight-reading a descant to Sweet Betsy from Pike in the 5th grade.  She hasn’t stopped singing since, and is so pleased to be celebrating her 12th year as a member of the San Francisco Choral Artists.  Lisa now works for the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy after teaching music at the San Francisco Waldorf School for 17 years.

Carri Abrams.  Carri is celebrating her tenth season singing with Choral Artists. Past credits include SF Symphony Chorus, Pacific Chorale and Philharmonia Baroque Chorale, as well as chamber concerts with SF Symphony musicians and lead singer/dancer with Holland America productions. She also currently performs with Those Darn Accordions, a wacky genre-defying ensemble.

ALTOS

Katie Bent is proud to have been a member of SFCA for ten years. Having sung with the Seattle Girls’ Choir, the Seattle Women’s Chorus and the Seattle Men’s Chorus (high school was a confusing time), Katie went on to acquire a degree in music composition from Pomona College. When not singing or writing music, Katie can be found hosting trivia at the Napper Tandy or exploring John McLaren Park with Charlie, the world’s best dog.

Claire Giovanetti has been a member of SFCA for the last 3 years, but before that was singing with the original group and conducted them also, until Magen took the reins. In the meantime she has been active in the musical scene of the Bay Area, singing, and conducting and most recently ended a 55 year career in Church music, as well as a 30 year career teaching class and solo voice at Stanford.

Tina Harrington a San Francisco Choral Artiste since 1989, directs the Distaff Singers (an 89-yr-old community chorus), and is alto soloist at Piedmont Community Church. She especially loves teaching choral music to inspiring high school students at The College Preparatory School in Oakland.

Yiting Jin, Alto, took her first musical steps at the age of four as a pianist, and is thrilled to be at the intersection of artistic and technical innovation as a singer with SFCA. She currently also sings with 21V, a professional treble choir pioneering 21st century music of the Americas, as well as Masterworks Serenade ensemble. She is on the Board of Volti and Piedmont Children’s Choir. Yiting has a BA in Economics from Princeton University and works in product management.

Margaret Mefford has been singing pretty much all her life. She was a member of the San Francisco Girls Chorus, received her B.M. in vocal performance from San Francisco State, participated in several local choirs – took a hiatus from singing to start a family and realized – something was missing! Singing in a really good choir! That was in 2005 and she’s been with SFCA ever since. Margaret currently works at a Bioinformatics company and resides in San Mateo, loves to cook and bake and especially loves her dog, Charlie.

BASSES

Jarron Carlson, has enjoyed singing with SFCA’s bass section since he joined in 2023. He has participated in choruses since middle school. Jarron received his MA in Music Composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and relishes the opportunity to perform so many new works with this ensemble. Between Monday night rehearsals, one could find him at a showing of a new movie, biking through Golden Gate Park, or creating sound collages from field recordings.

Asher Davison, a copyeditor and science educator, became a clarinetist in the Santa Monica public schools, but got hooked on singing this century through Magen’s exacting work with OSC. Currently he is a countertenor in the all-genders treble choir 21V and bass leader at Piedmont Church. Formerly director of Coro Ciconia, Asher studies today with Cheryl Keller. He and his alto spouse Sarah met in SFCA and have spawned Zephyr and Sybil--an aspiring vocal quartet?

After graduating with a public relations degree from Syracuse University, where he was president of Otto Tunes a cappella, he drove across the country to work in strategic communications. He previously sang with the Hendricks Chapel Choir and Syracuse University Singers, touring London, Scotland, and Brazil. When not singing, he can be found cooking, sitting and dreaming, or scrambling for par on the disc golf course.

In addition, he has performed with Oakland Youth Chorus, the Five-Spots, U.C. Berkeley Chamber Chorus, Baroque Arts Ensemble, Sacred & Profane, Chalice Consort, and San Francisco Renaissance Voices.
